The dominion .cat is a generic dominion, like .com or .org, but, unlike these two, has a restricted character more: he is destined to Catalan the linguistic and cultural community to Internet. Therefore, everybody will be able to use .cat that can demonstrate its relation with Catalan the cultural and linguistic community to Internet: who communicates in line in Catalan, who also has a Catalan Web in, that she belongs to organizations that or have dominions .cat, but companies, groups or individuals nonestablished in the Catalan area linguistic that want to direct their services to the Catalan community.
Any name can be registered, but the Foundation puntCAT can block to the dominion if it determines that the Web does not meet the condition for having a use related to the language and the Catalan culture.
The dominions must have more than 2 characters and a maximum of 62. The admitted characters will be those of the Catalan alphabet, plus the digits (0-9) and the script, but this last one can go at the outset neither nor at the end of the dominion, nor can be used two followed scripts
The dominion .cat accepts the 11 special characters of Catalan (à ; ç; è e; i; ï; l·l; ò; or; u; ü). Who registers a dominion with accent also registers (of gratuitous way and like part of the service) the dominion without the accents (fundació.cat = fundacio.cat). Both dominions will behave, in fact, like only one.
